CSL THEME JULY 16, 2017: From Racism to Gracism
SPIRITUAL COMMUNITY LIVING LIFE SPIRITUALLY
ERNEST HOLMES: Each one of us today is the result of the use we have made of the Law, either consciously or unconsciously. Whatever we think, act, believe in, feel, visualize, vision, image, read and talk about - in fact all processes which affect or impress at all - are going into the subjective state of our thought, which is our individualized use of Universal Mind. Whatever goes into the subjective state of our thought tends to return again as some condition. So we, and we alone, control our destiny.
TODAY’S THEME – Do you know Your A-B-C’s?
A Dose of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy - REBT from Albert Ellis with a Religious Science Twist
Do you know your A-B-C’s? Today we explore the work of a prominent psychologist, Albert Ellis, who understood that our conditions (C) in life are clearly not determined by the activating events (A) that happen to us but rather by our beliefs (B) about those events. This places responsibility for our conditions clearly within ourselves. If we are not experiencing the conditions we desire, we need to look at our thoughts and beliefs about those conditions and dispute (D) those that don’t serve us and replace them with beliefs that achieve more desirable effects (E).
We will explore together how Religious Science provides us with even greater ways, a kind of “psychology plus”, to allow universal mind to flow through us to create beliefs that sustain a better life for ourselves and greater levels of service to others. Holmes believes that the power of thought is the Creative Mind of God in action and anyone can learn how to use it. Mind creates what it thinks. This is the Law. We call it the Law of Cause and Effect.
Please join us on Sunday as we explore how our thoughts and beliefs create and sustain the conditions we manifest and demonstrate. The key to a better life lies within us and is controlled by us. This is great news! Our fate is in our own hands!
ERNEST HOLMES: Thoughts are planted in the creative medium and produce conditions and effects. We can absolutely change any belief that has manifested something in our life that is painful or undesirable.
2017 Values Based Spiritual Living
“We stand together in a shared commitment and devotion to our spiritual principles, practices, and values.”
JULY: OPEN COMMUNICATION
We communicate openly with each other in an atmosphere of collaboration and inclusion
Grace: Surrender of the sense of separation does not mean extinction of the individual. It means divine action (grace) flowing freely without the conflict of self-will. Rev. Ellen Grace O’Brian, in Week 5 “Surrendering to Grace” in Practical Mysticism Student Workbook p48
Grace: Jesus said, “empty yourself and I will fill thee” … this is the consciousness you want to embrace…. Possessed by an active, mystical purpose… you follow guidance, releasing your expectations of what the outcome will be … live with great faith.. continue devotion to inner work… Your surrender tells God that you are ready for experiences that few others would understand. P213 in Myss, Caroline, Entering the Castle Finding the Inner Path to God and your Soul’s Purpose.
Racism: …can not be fully explained as an expression of prejudice alone… a system involving cultural messages and institutional policies and practices as well as the beliefs and actions of individuals. Tatum, Beverly, “Defining Racism” in Adams, etal , Readings for Diversity and Social Justice 3rd Ed. (Routledge: New York ) 2013, page 60
